The whitewashed Manor House and the many preserved farm buildings across the centuries are fascinating to explore. The rose gardens are exquisite and the landscaped gardens give great pleasure to all who visit. Above all, Fredriksdal portrays rural life in Skåne with native farm breeds of pig, goat, sheep, ducks, geese, hens and even bunnies! The farm is horse powered so heavy horses Grålla and Nellie can be seen at work with Museum Farmer, Bosse Dahlgren. All the animals are rare and Fredriksdal plays a vital role in the gene banks for these lovely animals - indeed the Linderod Pig is on Slow Food's Ark of Taste. A visit here is so much more than a walk in the country....you can gain a real appreciation of where our food comes from.... (Photo Anna Nilsson) Since Wendy met Fredriksdal’s Museum Farmer Bosse Dahlgren she has been getting to know Skåne’s food culture and has now published this unique non-profit making online guide to celebrate it. Wendy, a Scot, is a professional cook and educator, well known on Scotland’s food scene for her cookery shows and award-winning www.scottishfoodguide.com. Frustrated by the ‘pay to get in’ nature of many guides, she created a website where consumers could trust her personal recommendations safe in the knowledge entry was on merit alone. As in Scotland Skånsk Food Guide costs are met from Wendy’s other food activities and the optional marketing opportunities for listees. Husband Bosse Dahlgren is equally passionate about local produce, traditional farming and native breeds. The guide currently has about 50 entries and will always be about quality not quantity: more eligible businesses will be added in due course but rest assured Wendy will be cherry picking the best with not a turbo pig or a chicken nugget in sight!
